FISHING REPORT

Monday July 7th, Well  I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful 4th of July holiday weekend! I have to say Perch season has been open 3 weeks now and it is definitely way better than I expected. Up until today we have had all the right winds and weather conditions. It’s north/west today which is great for fishing the Horseshoe for Sheephead (fresh water drum). Perch report up through yesterday was fire 🔥🔥! Unfortunately some are not finding the schools and are reporting none. If you fish an area and have no activity for 20 to 30 minutes move to another area they are there you just have to locate them. Had a guy diving around the harbor and he said the harbor was loaded with Perch. They have also been switching up on baits. Of course soft shell crayfish are always #1 they have been hitting minnows, shrimp, worms, some artificial baits, jigging spoons, etc… Unfortunately we are out of soft shell crayfish and they are probably done for the season but we have almost the next best bait, the live pond crayfish. They work for Perch, Smallmouth and Sheephead.
Smallmouth are cruising all over the harbors so cast out a line with a Nitro Worm, Leech, large Shiner or any artificial such as Ned rigs, senkos, 360 GT’s, Lunker baits, spinners, etc… The weather is great, the fishing is great, so get up and get out, you can’t catch them from the couch! As always call for your up to the minute report, we tell it as we hear it.
