FISHING REPORT
Sunday July 19th, I’m hoping everyone has been ok with this crazy smokey air from canada. As far as fishing goes, it is pretty slow. The water temps are well in the 70’s which is great for Swimming bad for most fishing. The winds this upcoming week look like they are going to have a lot of north and east. Great for Sheephead (freshwater Drum) Fishing they love those winds. Get yourself some live crayfish or frozen soft shell crayfish and fish them with a bottom rig. They do put up a good fight. Some people do like to eat them. They are good when cleaned properly
perch will be slow.
Smallmouth are still hitting in and around the harbors. Use live or artificial baits and just work the bottom.
no trout reports this week.
the chicago river has activity even when things get warm. There are a lot of areas other than the downtown riverwalk to fish it, so maybe give that a shot. Try some worms, nitro or regular night crawlers, leeches, live crayfish, butter or wax worms, etc…or give one of the forest preserve lakes a try, my husband has been fishing skokie lagoons quite a bit and has had some nice bass and saw some other big fish lost by other anglers. The chicago park district ponds have been stocked with some small bluegill & bullheads. So gather the kids and get em out! It’s a great place for kids to get their start and get them hooked on fishing!
this past week i Attended the ICast show in orlando florida. For those who Don’t know what that is, it is the worlds largest sportfishing trade show. I have attended This show for 25+ years.
