FISHING REPORT

Tuesday july 28th, Weather, Weather, Weather it’s So crazy Right? Hope everyone is ok after this last round!
Fishing has been slow. Lake water Temperatures are in the 70’s

A perch here and there but Definitely only a couple.

Smallmouth can still be caught in and around the harbors but need a little more enticement. Using baits live and active has been the trick. Live crayfish, leeches, large shiners or nitro worms. Work the plastics such as your Ned rigs, tube jigs, swimbaits, urchins, etc.. off the bottom.

lots of sheephead (freshwater drum) around especially when the winds come from the north. Put Live crayfish or softshells on a bottom rig and be ready for the bite!

no trout or salmon to Report in our area but was told that a few kings have been seen jumping in the harbors up north and i’ve also seen some reports out of michigan. It is still a little early but time moves fast, so in just a few weeks i’m sure we will see our first one, which will probably be caught by the one and only lakefront Joe!

Other options; the chain of lakes has been good. Bluegill, crappie and stripers. Use minnows, spikes, wax worms and night crawlers. We have oxygen bags so you can transport your minnows and they will stay alive for 24hours or more.

The chicago river always has fish activity of some sort, big carp, catfish/bullhead, bass, crappie, sunfish, perch, etc…I’ve Been Told Even Walleye, just grab some bait and give it a try. Minnows, crayfish or worms as well as artificial baits. It goes from downtown north into skokie. I’m sure there are other areas north of Skokie, but I am unfamiliar.

My husband brian has been fishing skokie lagoons and has caught a bunch of small bluegill and has had a few nice bass. Sometimes those forest preserve lakes get a bad rap and can definitely get overfished but they can offer some nice fish.  I also think they are great starter places for kids to get interested in the sport/hobby.
life is short so get up and get out! Try a new place or go to your regular spot. Just remember you can’t catch em from the couch!

as always call for your up to the minute report, we tell it as we hear it! Enjoy your week!
