FISHING REPORT
Tuesday August 4th, Where is the time going? I can Believe it is august already! The fishing report is mostly on the slow side. Water is warm and passing storms Especially the one last monday have had the lake churned up a bit.
there has been a perch here and there but really nothing to brag about. Try some minnows or soft shells on a perch rig for your best chance.
No trout or salmon to report as of yet but time is Getting closer. It is still early but I know the time is close because Joe was out casting this morning. We have all the lures needed in stock now for you to land that big one so Stop in and stock up.
Smallmouth need a little Enticing but are still cruising the harbors and lakefront shoreline. Best baits are still crayfish, nitro worms, leeches and larger minnows as well as plastics like ned rigs, the new urchin baits, swimbaits, etc…work them all off the bottom with a slow retrive. we have a good supply of bass baits and keep adding all the time! sheephead (freshwater drum) still doing good on live crayfish or soft shell crayfish with a bottom rig. North and north/east winds get them biting like mad!
the chicago river is always a good place to try. After last weeks storms it was high but is back down to a fishable level. There are a lot of species so try your luck with minnows, crayfish or worms.
The chicago park district has a lot of great ponds within it’s parks that are stocked with small sunfish and catfish. This is a great way to get your kids into fishing. They also offer many free walk up family fishing days that are listed on there website Fishing@chicagoparkdistrict.com.
time moves fast so get up and get out! You can’t catch em From the couch!
